I have just created a new blog. This new one will intentionally be less factual and more fictional. In fact, it will mix actual situations with imaginary stories. The hero is Akila a young man, telling us the story of his days.

I have always wanted to get involved in volunteering at least since I travelled back home in 2001.
There is some much to be done to develop our countries and so little resources.
And the ongoing unrest, all over Africa, is keeping the focus away from an effective action towards social and economic development.
Everyone's eyes are rather fixed on the political warfare waged from long ago by the same kinds of persons.
This is to say that the population ought to take some development issues personally and start acting and not wait for the aid to drop down from somewhere.
We can start something and build out of nothing, may it be little, if each one does a part, it's going to be big as all efforts unite for the good of the community.
Again, there is so much to be done in so many fields: health and welfare, education, small business, women's condition, children's condition ... I found a couple of website that aggregate volunteers and development projects. At least that's the first impression I had while visiting them yesterday, I am still discovering what they are all about:

Marburg fever in Angola

As if there was not enough plagues striking the continent, Angola is facing an outbreak of Marburg fever.
By now, almost 150 peoples died from that virus from the same family as the deadly Ebola.

This is medical informations about this dreadful plague.

It is a severe and highly contagious form of haemorrhagic fever.

The virus was first discovered in 1967, during simultaneous outbreaks at laboratories in the former Yugoslavia and Frankfurt and Marburg, Germany.

About one in four people infected with the virus die, usually from shock or liver failure. However, in areas where medical support is poor, the death rate can be much higher.

The disease can then become increasingly damaging, causing jaundice, delirium, liver failure, and extensive haemorrhage, which can give rise to bloody diarrhoea and vomiting of blood (heamatemesis).

The patients can make a full recovery but it can take a long time, and some suffer from related conditions such as hepatitis, inflammation of the spinal cord and eye problems.

There is no cure yet, but one important thing is to keep patients from dehydration.

Experts believe the virus is rare and only found in Africa.

Cases have occurred in Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Angola.

Violence after Togo 2-1 Mali

This week-end, short before the end of the football game opposing Togo to Mali, in Bamako, the supporters interrupted the game after the second togolese goal, and rushed on the playground, making the police use tear gas to contain the mob.
The game has been won 2-1 by Togo.
The angry supporters damaged a lot of the malian capital's monuments and building.
They were also reclaiming the heads of some team members and football league officials.
Around a hundred people were arrested on that day.
This is a very saddening reaction to a sport game.
I hope the malian governement will soon clear this issue and set an example so as to keep this from happening anywhere esle in Africa.

Chefchaouen

Topic: My wanderings
Wow, there are some nice places on this earth, and Chefchaouen is one of them. J and I went up north last week-end, and got to visit this little town nested between the mountains. It - is - beau-ti-ful!!
Many things almost convinced us to not go there: the reputation of the place, as a drug-selling center and someone told J that there are cases of meningitis found there.Brrr!
Good thing we didn't come across any drug dealer nor human-biting disease-spreading insect.
The place is soooo romantic and sooo cute! The people there are charming and so nice. An ongoing atmosphere of feast was reigning in the place. So happy and warm.
The colours around are gorgeous, everywhere you can see white-and-blue or white-and-purple houses, hotels and other types of buiilding.
We visited the Kasbah and the museum inside of it.
Leaving Chefchaouen almost broke our hearts. And we would seize the next smallest opportunity to make a trip again to this enchanting city.
